  What Got YOU Out Of The Organization?

  how did you come to the final decision to get out of her (the organization, "mother")?

  A JW friend started sharing information he found about the WT that reflected it in a poor light. Amazingly, I can't even remember the details of what it was. I just remember telling him that either the WT was the truth, and therefore justified in it's actions, or it was the most presumptious organization I had ever known. Once I was able to think honestly about that question, the answer was obvious.

  Then I read "Crisis of Conscience" and "Combatting Cult Mind Control" and there was no going back. I remember at the time wondering how I could have swallowed that hogwash for all those years.

  Thank God I'm out! It's the best thing I ever did for myself!

  Dad passed away...

  my father passed away last week.

  it was not a sudden thing.

  he was in his eighties and declining in health every time i saw him.

  My sympathies for your loss. I'm glad you were able to find comfort from some who attended the service.

  My best wishes to you in your relationship with your sisters. If you are looking for ideas on how to help your sisters get out of the WT, Steven Hassan's book, "Releasing the Bonds: Empowering People to Think for Themselves" is a good one.

  Update: Mrs. Chickennest's cancer

  my dear wife has undergone three rounds of chemotherapy as an inpatient at the mayo clinic in the past two months.

  we are returning to minnesota/mayo clinic this saturday.

  she will begin seven weeks of chemotherapy/radiation.

  therapist says affairs can help some/my marriage....really...

  well that took me back a bit...but since i have led a double life since third grade...i have become the master of compartmentalizing...and since my exit and since it is now not just to my parents (as a youth)...but now having to do it to my hardcore jw wife....well...it just gets frikkin easier and easier...i now think i am becoming capable of stuff i would have never dreamed of...this is scary.... i have decided i can afford it financially though i dread this at 47, since this is the second time i would lose half my assets....crap...and my wife is a wonderful lady!...hot even!...but i so want to grow and be totally free...damm the costs are so high...why cant i be content with a non-nagging jw wife?????.

  oh...and basically it seems that if certain needs (not just sex!

  ) need to be met...and your mate will never know...than it can help your marriage continue with no bad side effects???

  I've noticed this, too, among JWs. I think it's because they are taught that the only way to "break" a marriage is adultery. So if they really want a divorce, they go find someone willing to have sex with them, and then they consider the marriage over. I think this is sad, as some have meaningless sexual encounters for just this purpose.

  I find it interesting that JW policies actually encourage immoral behavior that way, by leaving people in difficult marriages with no other way out.

  Oompa,

  I don't like butting in to other people's marital situations, but I would definitely get a second opinion before doing something that drastic. I have never heard of a therapist suggesting anything like that to a client before. This would involve deceit and betrayal and I can't believe any good therapist would suggest that such behavior would be helpful or even not harmful in a relationship. Furthermore, how could you guarantee she would not find out? This seems to me like a very risky and dangerous thing to do.

  Purps shared the experience of one therapist having an affair with his/her client. If that was known, the therapist could lose their license for it, as it is highly unethical and considered an abuse of the therapist/client relationship. Don't just trust this therapist without questioning. Most are professional, but some are not.

  Awake article about youths who died for refusing blood transfusions

  does anyone know how i can get a copy, or several copies, of the awake magazine (i don't know the date) with the cover article featuring the jw kids that died refusing blood?

  i would also be interested in any other w's or a's that had information regarding the blood issue, especially as it relates to children.. thanks.. .

  Kids sent to jail so Judges could make millions in kickbacks...

  i am sooooooooo sick and tired of this s$$t from our 'leaders'....... wilkes-barre, pa. for years, the juvenile court system in wilkes-barre operated like a conveyor belt: youngsters were brought before judges without a lawyer, given hearings that lasted only a minute or two, and then sent off to juvenile prison for months for minor offenses.. the explanation, prosecutors say, was corruption on the bench.. in one of the most shocking cases of courtroom graft on record, two pennsylvania judges have been charged with taking millions of dollars in kickbacks to send teenagers to two privately run youth detention centers.. "i've never encountered, and i don't think that we will in our lifetimes, a case where literally thousands of kids' lives were just tossed aside in order for a couple of judges to make some money," said marsha levick, an attorney with the philadelphia-based juvenile law center, which is representing hundreds of youths sentenced in wilkes-barre.. prosecutors say luzerne county judges mark ciavarella and michael conahan took $2.6 million in payoffs to put juvenile offenders in lockups run by pa child care llc and a sister company, western pa child care llc.

  the judges were charged on jan. 26 and removed from the bench by the pennsylvania supreme court shortly afterward.. no company officials have been charged, but the investigation is still going on.. the high court, meanwhile, is looking into whether hundreds or even thousands of sentences should be overturned and the juveniles' records expunged.. among the offenders were teenagers who were locked up for months for stealing loose change from cars, writing a prank note and possessing drug paraphernalia.

  many had never been in trouble before.
